I've been thinking lately that I'd like to try streaming a painting session at some point, and for that I'll need a webcam that isn't built into my monitor.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about something like this on the hardware end? I do have an old clamp-on crane arm from an old desk lamp that died, so I think I can use that to help position whatever I get over my desk.

I bought a Logitech webcam from Best Buy that was like 30 bucks so I could Skype with some friends overseas. It has adjustable clamps on it with rubber padding so it can grip your monitor (or whatever else, like an old desk lamp arm) without scratching it, and there are no permanent adhesives or anything on it so you can move it or take it down completely when it's not in use. It has a pretty long USB cable on it as well and a bit of software that lets you adjust things on it. I don't know if it has auto-focus or not. though. I imagine you'd be able to turn that feature off using the software.
