September Squares 1-4 by emmalazauski September Squares 1-4 by emmalazauski
Here are first four squares of my little September scenic squares project. It's just a little something I'm doing to encourage myself to paint a lot of different color and lighting situations, hopefully in narratively interesting ways!

The variety of things you explored in these Steptember scenic squares is astounding! I love all your various palettes!

Thanks! Exploring color palettes was the biggest motivation for me doing this project - I wanted to demonstrate to myself that hitting an atmospheric target in watercolor could be effective and efficient with a target in mind. :)

I follow you on tumblr as well so I've seen these already, but I think putting them together in sets like this really adds something! The contrast between the different squares just enhances the atmosphere of each one and shows off what you're trying to do, I think.

Thanks! I kind of wanted to make it clear on DA that these were part of a larger project so it seemed like posting collages would be the best way to get that across. :)

Thanks! I figure since they're small it's better to post them here in groups.

This is a great Idea! How large are these little squares?
They indeed leave me thinking what stories these places have to tell.

These are all 5x5 inches. Small enough to do quickly despite drying times and large enough to fit some details in!

Thank you! In all of these I've used watercolor and felt tip liner pens (microns and pigment liners).

Thanks! I wanted to formulate a challenge that would really emphasize harmonious use of value and color - I think that scenes are the most dramatic way to explore those things in image making.
